Self Defense

The monk’s self-defense package requires anyone who wishes to learn these techniques, to sign up with a friend. These are easy techniques that anyone can learn but they will need to be practiced with a partner to fully understand them and how to use them.
They are all coming out of a system in the kung fu world called Chin Na which literally translates to seize and lock and that’s just what they do.

If someone reaches for you, grabs you or punches at you (depending on how well you’ve practiced them and developed your reflexes), these techniques use the attacker’s body against them in order to place them in joint locks which are then easy to keep them locked in.

There are literally thousands of different chin na moves and I work hard to scour through them to find moves that my wife, who is 5’ 2” tall can use on me and make them work. These are not strength based moves and stronger people have always been amazed at how easily they can be controlled by someone that has learned how to do this.

I promise I do not let her make them work. I believe that if I only teach moves that she can employ then just about anyone can use them no matter what your size.
And to answer one question, in a confrontation between two people, the smaller person actually has the advantage here since the larger person has to come off their center of gravity to reach for or grab the smaller person.

Understanding how to root your body and use the attacker’s momentum and body against them is the key to success here.
I spend three months working on zoom with each pair of people that sign up so that at the end, they have a clear understanding of how these moves work and what they need to continue practicing as they go forward.

I also stay available for questions after the three months are up just so no one feels lost since everyone is different and it takes some people longer to get the feel for this than others.

We will have zoom sessions twice a week and I will be available by text or email between sessions to help motivate and keep things moving forward.

Basic package

In this package, I work closely with each person to determine where they are starting and where they want to go.

Everyone is different so “getting back in shape” means something a little different for each of us.

I also use all my accumulated knowledge and experience to devise not only the perfect exercise program but the best nutrition guide for each and every client.

These are not just your standard programs. Again, everyone is unique and has unique needs and desires. 

One person may love lifting weights where that won’t appeal to someone else.

I work together with each client to come up with an “exercise” plan that doesn’t feel like a chore.

Since growing up with spinal issues, I have researched and explored many different ways of staying fit and active and many people I know tell me that I have “the longevity gene”.

I do not believe that I have any different genes than any other person. I just know that, just like Newton’s 1st law states: a body in motion tends to stay in motion.

Once I figure out a custom plan for you, then I set about recommending all equipment that you may need to have in order to follow through on your journey to a stronger and fitter you.

This isn’t just exclusively exercise gear, but I also talk with you about your cooking skills and then recommend whatever cooking tools you may need.

I believe that in today’s world, as much confusion surrounds the market of “healthy” foods, it’s important that each of us knows how to cook for ourselves.

I showed a knack on the farm, early on, for how to cook and have been cooking all my life.

I can show you how to cook the things quickly and easily that you want to eat so you can get back into the shape you want. 

Don’t worry if you haven’t ever cooked before, I’ll help you become the cook that your friends always want at their parties.

I won’t devise a plan that asks you to eat things you just don’t like.

It’s really about the balance between calorie intake and calorie burn and we’ll figure this out.

Once the nutrition and workout plans are devised, I’ll meet with you on zoom twice a week for about an hour and remain available by email and text through the rest of the week.

This program will continue for 12 weeks because it takes that long to make a fundamental change in a body, mind, and spirit.

Will this be easy? Probably not at first. You may actually regret hiring me after the first week but that’s why I stay with you for the 12 weeks, answering questions and keeping you motivated so you can succeed. 

I’ll also adjust things as we go along if what we came up with at the beginning just isn’t working, or maybe just because you’re getting bored with it. This can be a fluid process and I won’t just come up with a plan and then be rigid about it if it isn’t working.

 I will, however, be rather strict about adherence. I can come up with what I believe, and you agree sounds like the perfect plan but if you don’t stick to it, it won’t work.

That’s why I’ll be with you every step of the way through our 12 weeks together. I’ll also remain available through text and email once the three months are over if you still have questions.

Why do your packages cost so much?

I have a lifetime of knowledge and experience and I bring to the table, and I am a doctor of acupuncture and Chinese medicine. I use all of what I have learned to work with each client to devise their perfect program. These are custom programs from start to finish, from the nutrition plan to the exercise plan. I also spend the 12-week period keeping you motivated since I know it takes 3 months to make a fundamental change in the body, mind and spirit and the first 6 weeks can be very challenging as you’ll be sore, tired and you will most likely start to really question whether you can really do this. You can, and I’m there for you.

 

What makes you different from other fitness coaches.

I have worked and trained since I was 6  years old and I know a lot of different ways to work out and stay fit. I put all this knowledge into devising each and every custom program so that you know your program fits you and the things you like to do. There is no one best workout routine, there is no one best diet. Yours will be customized to you. I am also known to be very motivating, engaging and fun to work with. I pour myself into working with each client and my only goal with each person is their success.

Is there any point at which I’m too far gone for you to work with?

What is a typical training session like?​

No two sessions are alike. Just like no two people are alike but for the most part, each session will start with a quick evaluation of how the client feels they are progressing or not progressing and if adjustments are needed, they’re made. Then we move into the workout and I watch and correct form if needed and continue to motivate throughout the session. I don’t just use standard “you got this” kind of  platitudes, I get to know each client so I can motivate them in a more personal way. At the end of each session, we do another quick Q&A about how they felt about that workout and how effective or non-effective they think things are going and again, make any necessary changes so they continue to a successful conclusion of the program.

Why should I hire a fitness trainer?

Hiring a fitness trainer/coach takes the thinking out of it for you and gives you someone that will keep you motivated.

How many times a week will I meet with you?

I do 2 hour-long zoom session a week and stay available for questions and comments via text and email throughout the program.

Why should I hire you as opposed to someone cheaper?

I hate to be blunt, but in many cases, you get what you pay for and I feel like “how much is fitness and continued vitality worth to you?

Hiring someone to work with you can not only take the thinking out of it and keep you motivated but if you hire me, I work hard to be sure that the program you will be following is injury free. Too often, when people go into these programs that are not custom designed, they either don’t stick with it or they end up hurting themselves.

How will I know if you are the right coach for me?

That’s why I do a free zoom session for anyone interested. I believe that after we chat for a bit, you’ll either want to work with me or you won’t. People are very intuitive when it comes to working with someone. You should always talk with a perspective coach before you decide to work with them rather than just going to a gym and working with whoever they assign to you. This is a personal journey and you should make sure you connect with the person that is going to be leading you through it.
